MANASQUAN — A fundraiser to benefit Manasquan’s K-9 unit will be held at the Parker House in Sea Girt on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 7 to 11 p.m.
The Manasquan Police Department currently has one K-9 in its unit, Officer George. Tickets will be $20 per person and all monies raised will help with costs associated with having K-9 George in the Manasquan Police Department, an event flyer states.
According to Ptl. Nick Norcia, the annual costs for the K-9 unit vary. Among the annual health care insurance policy, food costs, equipment, etc., the unit could cost the department approximately $2,250 to $2,750 annually, at no cost to taxpayers.
Additionally, the department recently purchased a trunk vault for $1,500 to safely store narcotics used for training, he said. Proceeds from the event could also support this cost, as well as other outdated or breaking equipment in the K-9 vehicle.
The event was first held last year and saw nearly $7,000 in proceeds and about 150 attendees.
“We are looking forward to the … great continued support from the community, town administration and police department. Last year’s fundraiser wasn’t only successful, but it was a great opportunity for members of the department to meet and talk with local residents,” said Ptl. Norcia.
