SPRING LAKE — A Walk On Water [AWOW], a nonprofit organization that provides surf therapy to children with special needs, was welcomed back to Spring Lake for its second year for a day out on the beach for local families.
This year, AWOW was able to create a day to remember for over 150 special needs children, thanks to the borough council’s approval for extending the program for additional day making this year’s event two days instead of one.
The California-based organization holds therapeutic surfing lessons and sessions for families all around the country. According to AWOW executive director Sean Swentik, of Los Angeles, this was another great year at the Jersey Shore for everyone involved.
“We really try and make this a special day for the kids, for the families,” he said on Sunday.
While the rough winds Sunday made surfing difficult, a variety of other activities were available, including yoga, music and more.
“We want to make this a really intimate, valuable experience for everyone involved,” Mr.. Swentnik said.
“We’re blessed to be able to come to places like Spring Lake beach.”
