BRICK TOWNSHIP — More than 400 students and adults ran a vibrant rainbow gamut on May 28 to help raise funds for a new playground at Emma Havens Young Elementary School.

The school’s Fourth Annual Color Run took place May 28 on the field at the Drum Point Sports Complex and was sponsored by the Emma Havens Young Elementary School Parent Teacher Association.

Student volunteers from the middle and high school national honor society stood at quarter-mile intervals throughout the mile-long Color Run releasing vivid bursts of colored cornstarch as the runners passed by. The PTA plans to donate a portion of the proceeds raised from this year’s Color Run to the school’s ongoing fundraising for a new playground. The PTA plans for the new playground to replace the sand pit on the south side playground area of the school.

“The PTA will decide where parts of the funds go. It has been discussed that some of the funds will go to support a new playground that is needed on the one side of our building,” said Emma Havens’ Principal David Kasyan. “This is a positive event that allows students to have physical activity and engage with one another to promote health and wellness, and raise funds for our school so it is a nice opportunity for them to do this,” he added.
