BAY HEAD — The beautiful town of Old Gate was abuzz with activity as visitors from near and far enjoyed all the town has to offer along its historical streets.

“Old Gate is a culmination of work for the 16 students in K-5 in [Bay Head Elementary] school’s AAE [Advanced Academics and Enrichment] program,” teacher Carolyn Meyer told visitors Thursday, March 28.

“Old Gate is inspired by the BizTown Model created by an organization called Junior Achievement and these kids took that model and ran with it and really made it their own.

“They have had the help of many people along the way to make the businesses and organizations as authentic as possible, from family to school staff and community members. We are thankful and very appreciative of everybody’s help.”

According to the Junior Achievement website, the BizTown model allows students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, vote for mayor and encourages them to connect what they learn in school to the real world.
