Avon Pond looks back as longest season comes to an end

Players in a Sunday-morning hockey session were all lined up and ready to play at Avon Pond, which is located off South Station Avenue.

AVON-BY-THE-SEA — Organizers and supporters of the Avon Pond already are beginning to look back on its longest season, which will end as warmer weather approaches this coming weekend.

Plans are for the Avon Pond to turn off the power this week and have a take down day on a Saturday, once the ice melts — which takes about a month.

For the first time, the pond opened before Christmas for the 2018-2019 season.

“It was really nice because we were open for all the time kids were home from college,” said organizer John O’Malley.

Mr. O’Malley noted that there were many highlights and genuinely great moments this season at the rink, located off South Station Avenue.
