Driver in Rte. 88 crash arrested for drunk driving


POINT PLEASANT — Local law enforcement officials have made an arrest in a Labor Day evening crash that caused damage to local property along the Route 88 corridor.

According to a release from the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department Tuesday afternoon, Kara Costa, 18, of Brick Township, was arrested and charged with drunk driving, reckless driving, careless driving, open container in a motor vehicle, unsafe operation and possession of marijuana.

Officers responded to the area of Route 88 and Northstream Parkway at approximately 9:58 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, in response to a two-car motor vehicle crash.

According to the release, a preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by Ms. Costa traveling east on Route 88 struck another vehicle from behind, causing the vehicle to strike a utility pole.

The 55-year-old driver, from Point Pleasant, was transported to Ocean Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

After striking the initial vehicle, Ms. Costa’s vehicle then struck the front of the building at 3000 Route 88.
