BELMAR — Hang ten with St. Rose High School as surfing is added to the list of school sports for the upcoming school year.
Athletic Director Daniel White said that after some initial research to find out if there was interest in the school community for the team, which there was, plans started moving forward.
A resource that was used in setting up the new team was reaching out to Manasquan High School’s [MHS] national title winning surf team, Mr. White said.
Mr. White said the team members will use this first year to get their “feet wet” in the world of competition. He does not foresee them taking the leap and going to the nationals tournament in California as MHS does every year.
“Just kind of learn the ropes, go low and slow,” Mr. White said. “Build it up and see the amount of interest and the talent of our kids.”
