Recount gives Brennan two-vote council win

FREEHOLD — Democrat Thomas Brennan has retained his seat on the borough council by two votes, as the result of a recount of mail-in ballots, conducted at the Monmouth County Board of Elections on Wednesday morning.

Republican Joshua Vallario had taken a one-vote advantage into the recount but the new tally on Wednesday added four votes for Brennan and only one for Vallario. As a result, Brennan had a total of 996 votes to Vallario’s 994.

Mr. Vallario said he would evaluate any remaining options before conceding the race to Mr. Brennan.
