Second-half rally puts Point Beach in state football final


POINT PLEASANT BEACH — For the second week in a row, the Point Beach football team’s second-half performance advanced the team in the NJSIAA playoff, this time with a 22-19 win over Bound Brook at Lamont Field on Friday, Nov. 17.

Point Beach will next face Middlesex — for the second time this year — in the state final at Kean University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. The first time the two teams met on Sept. 29, Middlesex won 28-12.

Once again, the Garnet Gulls defense held its opponent scoreless in the second half and the offfense rallied from a 12-point deficit to take the win on Friday.

Senior defensive end John Nista led the team 10 tackles, including two sacks. Senior defensive end Chris Webber made seven tackles, and sophomore lineman Liam Buday and sophomore linebacker Aidan Conway each recovered a fumble.

Senior quarterback Luke Frauenheim completed five passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Senior tight end Jean Verrier and senior wide receiver Josh Yates each had a touchdown reception. Nista also scored a touchdown from the fullback position.
