POINT PLEASANT — Borough officials brought out the giant scissors Tuesday afternoon to cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the new playground at Community Park.
Mayor Robert Sabosik was joined by council members John Wisniewski, Pamela Snyder, William Borowsky and Michael Thulen at the ceremonial opening of the re- furbished playground — a moment of excitement for many of the borough’s youngest residents, who continued to laugh and enjoy the new playground well into the evening.
“It is part of our overall initiative to make the town safer and also to increase our capabilites in regard to recreation to all our residents,” Mayor Sabosik said following the grand opening.
The playground area was closed for several weeks as construction was underway to upgrade the area.
According to Administrator Frank Pannucci Jr., the borough’s Department of Public Works tore down the aged equipment that was already in place at the Bridge Avenue playground to lay a new bright green foundation.
GameTime, a commercial playground equipment manufacturer, installed the new rubber surface and brand new playground equipment — including slides, swings and monkey bars.
“Community Park was the first one that we did,” Mayor Sabosik said of the governing body’s intent to upgrade all the parks, recreational facilities and infrastructure throughout the municipality.
