Manasquan boys cross country has big goals for new season

MANASQUAN — The Manasquan boys cross country team is set for another breakthrough season. The Warriors return a very strong group of runners, who just missed advancing to the state meet after reaching the states two years ago.

The core group, led by seniors Dan Kelly and Grant Gilbert know what is is like to run in the state meet as well as win a division. The Warriors will be led by Kelly, Gilbert and junior Colin Flood.

Manasquan coach Steve Schwartz feels good about his team heading into the season. “We have some good runners returning,’’ said Schwartz. “I have four runners right now I know will be 1-2-3-4, that fifth spot is open.’’

Schwartz likes junior Brian Sugrue for the fourth spot. The junior had an excellent track season and is going out for cross country the first time after playing soccer.

Kelly feels the Warriors have some great potential to make their mark in both the B North Division and the state. “I am pretty excited about it,’’ said Kelly. “We have most of our returners from last year. Especially from the track team and we have WARRIORS some good young guys coming up.’’
