Dragons defense hits Knights hard in first scrimmage

BRICK — Brick Township’s football team hosted Wall Township for a scrimmage at Drum Point Sports Complex on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The Dragons looked eager and hungry as ever, in their first competition against another team.

“That was the good thing, playing somebody other than ourselves,” said Brick Township head coach Len Zdanowicz. “Two-and-half weeks in we get a little chippy at practice, so it’s nice to get out there and give it to somebody else,” he said.

The defense was able to get some big blocks early on in the scrimmage, something that showed promise not only to Zdanowicz but to the rest of the team.

“I was impressed,” said junior Jimmy Leblo. “I think our defense did a hell of a job, some mistakes on offense, but that’s the little things we have to work on.”

Their first game of the season will be against crosstown rival Brick Memorial on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played at Brick Township High School.
