Borough man arrested and charged in lewdness cases


POINT PLEASANT — A 24-year-old borough man has been arrested following an investigation into four lewdness incidents involving female juveniles that occurred over the past several months, according to Point Pleasant Borough police.

The investigation was carried out in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.

“On Friday, Aug. 18, Detective Joseph Hynes arrested Joseph D. Perello II, 24 years old, from Point Pleasant,” Point Pleasant Police Capt. Robert Lokerson announced Aug. 21.

According to Capt. Lokerson, Mr. Perello was charged with five counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of fourth- degree lewdness and two counts of disorderly persons lewdness.

“The arrest was a result of a continuing investigation into four lewdness incidents, which involved five juvenile victims,” Capt. Lokerson said.

The female victims ranged in age from 12 to 15 years old.

According to Capt. Lokerson, the incidents occurred in the borough on four dates; Feb. 16, 2017; Feb. 23, 2017; April 4, 2017 and Aug. 1, 2017. Mr. Perello was released pending his initial appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.

According to Capt. Lokerson, the arrest was made with assistance from within and outside the local community.
