SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Spring Lake Heights school board president Michael Forrester announced his resignation at the board meeting on Monday, Aug. 21.

Speaking with emotion, Mr. Forrester said, “I decided, based on many reasons, not the least of which, to be able to spend more time with family and personal business, I decided to resign.”

Michele Degnan-Spang, the board’s vice president, will now serve as the board’s acting president.

Mr. Forrester said the role of board president had been “one that has been of great importance to me. It brought me great personal satisfaction. It was an accomplishment to be able to service this community, while watching me own children proceed through the halls of the school.”

He thanked board members for their professionalism and commitment to the school.

“There is absolutely no question that this board is being left in extraordinarily dedicated and extremely talented hands,” Mr. Forrester said. “With that I am submitting my resignation and wish you all the best of luck.”

He received a round of applause and was then thanked by each board member in turn, with praise for his leadership, character and support.
