Jenkinson’s falls short of sweep in lifeguard tourney

POINT PLEASANT — Jenkinson’s A team won four out of five events to take first place in the third annual Sean Stephenson Memorial Lifeguard Tournament at Jenkinson’s Beach in Point Pleasant on Thursday, Aug. 10.

With three teams from Jenkinson’s, two from Risden’s, Aqua Surf and Bay Head all competing, it was the host team who took home bragging rights for the third consecutive year.

With the green flag posted in the sand and calm waves breaking on the shore, Risden’s A team took second, with Bay Head rounding out the top three.

“Our guards are extremely competitive,” said Brian Grainer, second captain of Jenkinson’s Beach Patrol. “They drilled hard all summer to make the cut to compete.”
