New Heights school superintendent starts work

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — The new superintendent of Spring Lake Heights School District, John Spalthoff, officially assumed his new role on Tuesday. His desk was clean and organized, papers all together. A congratulations note was written in green marker along the whiteboard, overlooking his long conference table. Next to the first message was written, “My kids were here.” In fact, they were helping him move in the week prior. A picture taken the day he was announced as the superintendent at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, July 10, hangs in his new office. The picture is of Mr. Spalthoff, his wife, Megan and their children, Delaney, Timmy and Kathryn. The entire room is surrounded by memories of his family, which is exactly what he hopes Spring Lake Heights will become part of. “I have always preached family first, and even when I was in the interview process, it was a very warm, family type atmosphere.” Mr. Spalthoff said. “The more research I did, the more I looked into the town, the more excited I was to join this community, where everyone is committed to the same goal.”
