Sea Girt BOE appoints new school superintendent

SEA GIRT — The Sea Girt Board of Education appointed Richard Papera as the new school superintendent and principal at the Thursday, July 27, Board of Education meeting. Mr. Papera, a native of Verona, and a resident of Bradley Beach, has been an educator for 20 years. Most recently, he was an assistant superintendent at in the Washington Township school district. “His years of experience lead us to think he was a good candidate,” said Colleen Prior, president of the Sea Girt school board. “Throughout the process, he focused on being a child-centered educator and his interest of working with the faculties and families of Sea Girt. All three of those pieces lead the board to think he was the right fit and the person to lead us forward.”  Earlier this year, Dineen Seeley, announced her resignation as the Sea Girt School’s superintendent and principal to accept a position with the Holmdel Township School District as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Since May 1, Robert Mahon, had filled in as acting superintendent in Sea Girt. “I am very excited, I can’t wait. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for awhile for a position that is closer to home and a position that is in a district that would be some place that I would want to settle in for long term,” said Mr. Papera.   Through the terms of his current contract with Washington Township, Mr. Papera expects to begin as the Sea Girt Superintendent and Principal no later than late September.
