Borough to consider issue of trucks parking in public lot

Residents complained about this parking lot in Brielle. RYAN WELSH / THE COAST STAR

BRIELLE — Two borough residents spoke out about commercial vehicles being parked in a municipal lot during the public comment portion at the borough council meeting July 10.

Paige Monroe, of Locust Road, and Sue Decker, of Cherokee Lane, told the mayor and council the issue of trucks parking is occurring in the lot adjacent to Mariner’s Cove Restaurant, on the corner of Union and Higgins avenues.

According to Ms. Monroe, since April “at anytime there will be eight to 10 commercial trucks in there,” adding “many times they’re there for hours.” Both Ms. Monroe and Ms. Decker were critical of the number of trucks parked in the lot, stating “it is beginning to look like a truck stop.”

The residents said the situation amounts to an eyesore next to the attractive benches and clock that are in the surrounding area, which they referred to as the “Gateway to Brielle.”
