BRADLEY BEACH — Two members of the Bradley Beach police department, Ptl. Gregory Pancza and Special I Officer Rafael Noriega, are among those being praised for rescuing two women in Avon-by-the-Sea from drowning on June 23.

The two officers responded after seeing the Avon police responding to a call for swimmers in distress. They worked hand-in-hand with surrounding police departments and first aid squads to ultimately end up with a positive result.

The two girls, who were identified as Nisha Desai, 21, of Woodland Park, and 21-year-old Perle Desir of Linden, were swept out by a rip current near Garfield Avenue and became distressed.

Officer Noriega added, “No nerves at all … the training kicked in right away. This is what we’re here to do, help people, save lives, and make a difference in the world. Fortunately we had a positive outcome.”
