Bike parade celebrates Independence Day in the borough

MANASQUAN — Patriotism was on display Sunday as children took part in a bike decorating contest that ended with a parade down Second Avenue to celebrate Independence Day.

“I think that Manasquan is kind of a throwback and people are very patriotic,” said Mayor Edward Donovan, who attended the bike decoration contest at the Mansquan-Brielle Little League fields at the on July 2.

“This is a holiday that people embrace,” he said, “Not only is it the kickoff to the summer basically, but it is also a very patriotic celebration. And I hope that people remember all of this stuff wasn’t free.
