MANTOLOKING — The borough council introduced the 2017 municipal budget Tuesday, totaling just over $6.8 million — a 2 percent increase over last year’s budget.
The proposed 2017 budget totals $6,817,623, a nearly $1 million increase over the 2016 budget which totaled $5,789,080.
The amount to be raised by municipal taxes totals $3,470,566, compared to $3,256,373 in 2016.
The budget maintains a surplus of $650,000 — $50,000 less than the surplus in 2016.
The borough added eight new employees in 2017, for a total of 70, resulting in an increase in the total salary and wages operating expense of $1,950,030. In 2016, this line item totaled $1,835,514.
