Erma Melso Fusco

Erma Melso Fusco, formerly of Sea Girt, entered into eternal life on Aug. 29 in Georgia.

Born in Newark, she resided in Sea Girt.

She is survived by her daughter, Mildred and son-in-law, Mark Brunier, of Macon, Ga., son, Anthony “Skeets” Fusco and fiancee, Dawn Pruticka, of Point Pleasant, daughter, Joanie and son-in-law, John Rizzitello, of Belmar, brother, Dominick Melso, of Edison, and brother-in-law, Joe Fusco and wife, Agnes, Edison.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and nieces and nephews.

Hart Funeral Home, Macon, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt, on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m.

Esther A. Grieco

Esther A. Grieco, 95 of Brick, formerly of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 6 at Care One at Wall.

Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Millburn and then resided in Spring Lake from 1957 until 1999 when she came to Brick.

Mrs. Grieco was a teacher at Hillside High School, in Hillside, before retiring in 1966 and also taught at the Lear Private School in Miami, Fla. She earned her bachelor of science degree in education from New Jersey State Teachers College, in Trenton. In addition to her distinguished teaching career, Esther owned the Suburban Arie Boutique, in Livingston, for 17 years.

Esther was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph Grieco, in 1995, her brother, Michael LaRocca, and her sisters, Mary, Helen and Julia LaRocca.

Visiting will be today, Thursday, Sept. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A graveside service will be offered Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, in Short Hills.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA 520 8th Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10018.

Mary Eileen Cardiello

Mary Eileen Cardiello of Avon-by-the-Sea died peacefully at home on Sept. 3, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Nonnie, as she was known by all who knew her, was born in Jersey City.

She was predeceased by her mother Loretta Boos, her dear husband of 55 years, Dr. Frank Cardiello, and her son, Frank John.

She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses: Susan and her husband, Dr. Fred Mayer, of Avon, Donna and her husband, John Appleman, of Avon, Dr. Gary Cardiello and his wife, Janet, of Warren, Theresa Cardiello, of Helena, Mont., and Dr. Peter Cardiello and his wife, Soyeon Kim, of Maplewood. She leaves behind 16 beautiful grandchildren who will all miss her dearly; Jason, Peter, Laura, and Mary Mayer, Julia, Anna, Gregory and Emma Appleman, Matthew, Timothy, and Christian Cardiello, Michael John, Rachael, Joseph and Jonathon Cardiello and Rebecca Cardiello.

Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and she devoted much of her time to each and every one of them. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

Burial was in St. Anne’s Cemetery, in Wall.

William H. Pierson Jr.

William H. Pierson, Jr., 82, of Lincroft, with family in Spring Lake, died on Friday Sept. 3, at the Meridian Sub Acute Facility, in Wall.

Mr. Pierson was a foreman with the Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park for 23 years before retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Navy veteran immediately following WWII from 1945 — 1948. Mr. Pierson was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Madison and a member of the Madison Elks No. 1465 for 27 years where he was the Elk of the Year in 1975. He was born in Orange, raised in East Orange, and lived in Irvington, Middletown, Madison and Ocean Township before moving to Lincroft five years ago.

Mr. Pierson was predeceased by his loving wife Helen M [Rossitter] Pierson in 2001, sister Helen Shann, and son- in-law Robert E. Murphy in 2008. Surviving are his daughters Janet L. Murphy, of Spring Lake and Barbara A. Widmann, of Ocean Grove. He also leaves several cousins.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, is in charge of arrangements.

The service will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home followed by burial and Military Honors at The Brig. Wm. C. Doyle Cemetery in Arneytown. Donation may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 2550 Rt. 1, North Brunswick 08902-4301.

Grace B. Dickson

Grace B. Dickson died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 6, at home in Sea Girt.

Mrs. Dickson was born on May 29, 1918 in Baltimore, Md. She lived in Manasquan most of her life and later moved to Sea Girt.

She graduated from Manasquan High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan University.

Mrs. Dickson was an active business person. She co-founded Dickson Supply Co. Brielle, in 1946, with her late husband of 46 years, Allan J. Dickson.

She enjoyed traveling and sports. Mrs. Dickson was a long time member of the Manasquan River Golf Club. She also had been a bowler, participating in various Shore Area leagues.

Mrs. Dickson is survived by her son and his wife, Allan and Margaret; three grandchildren Robert D. Merriken, Heather G. Merriken and Abbey D. Holloway and two great-grandchildren Trevor R. and Finn O. Holloway. She also is survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie G. Dickson, a grandchild Trevor A. Dickson, and her brother, Thomas S. Birckhead.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements. A funeral Mass will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, in Manasquan. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Brielle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Children’s Fund Manasquan Elks No. 2534, 17 Stockton Lake Blvd., Manasquan 08736.

Robert C. Hudson

Robert C. Hudson, 56, of Wall Township, died Sunday Sept. 5 at his home.

Born in Neptune, he has lived in Wall Township all of his life.

Mr. Hudson was an electrician for I.B.E.W Local No. 400 in Wall. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local No. 400 in Wall and the Wall Fire Company No. 1.

Mr. Hudson was pre-deceased by his wife, Kerry in 2008 and two brothers, Kevin, in 1994 and John, in 1998.

He is survived by his son, Thomas R. and his daughter, Katie L., both at home, his mother, Viola [Simpson], one brother, James, of N. Palm Beach, Fla., two sisters, Patricia Travers, of Wall and Beth Carlomusto, of Melbourne, Fla., three grandchildren, Liam, Aidan and Theresa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

Cremation was private.
