Albina Schuber
Spring Lake resident Albina Leveque “Albie” Schuber died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lincroft.
She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Schuber was a resident of Spring Lake for over 50 years. She was born in West Englewood and raised in Teaneck.
Albina was a former member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Church in Brielle and a past president of the Woman’s Guild.
Before retiring she had worked many years at Monmouth Medical Center and the Deal Country Club. She also volunteered at Point Pleasant Hospital and the Thrift Shop of Manasquan.
She was predeceased by her son, Herk William, in 1999; and her sisters, Madeline Shaughnessy, Marie Beggs and Alice Slafer. Her loving husband of 66 years, Fred William Schuber, passed away on Oct. 23, 2007.
Surviving are her son, Gary and his wife, Marcella, of Rumson; a sister, Madeline Dietz, of Ridgefield; three grandchildren, Marcella and her husband, Anthony, Patrick and his wife, Marta, and Mark; and eight great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends will be received at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, on Friday, Feb. 22 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service offered at 11.
Committal will be private.

Susan Shields
Point Pleasant resident Susan Gail [nee Dahms] Shields passed away Saturday, Feb. 9 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.
She was 44 years old.
Sue was a loving and devoted wife and mother, as well as a beloved daughter and sister. She was a favorite of 13 nieces and nephews. For Sue, her family always came first.
She was a loyal and caring friend to many, as well as an active member of her community. Sue grew up in Wall Township and was a graduate of Wall High School. She raised her family in Point Pleasant, and worked as a para-professional for the Point Pleasant school district for many years.
Surviving is her husband, Christopher Shields, and her beloved children, Courtney and Tyler. She is also survived by her loving parents, Raymond and Edna Dahms; her sister, Karen, of Allentown; and brothers Gary and Brian, both of Wall; her mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Shields, of Toms River; her two sisters in-law, Peggy Bruno and Ellen Campo, of Toms River; and her two brothers in-law, Chip Shields, of Wall and Bryan Shields, of Tinton Falls.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Church in Brielle, Riverview Drive, Brielle.
Burial will be in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

Catherine Brady
Bradley Beach resident Catherine Brady died on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 75 years old.
Catherine was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., raised her family in Old Bridge, and lived in Pompano Beach, Fla. before moving to Bradley Beach.
Catherine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a parishioner of Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, John F. Brady, in 1998; her two sons, Frank and Phillip Brady; five brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are her two sons, John Brady and his wife, Patricia, of Brick and Scott Brady, a Merchant Seaman; two daughters, Catherine Brady, of Fort Worth, Texas and Cynthia Brady, of Bradley Beach; a sister, Regina Kelly, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Danielle Martin, Michelle Cangelosi, John Brady, Patrick Brady, Kevin Brady, Myles Linzey; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Martin, Sophia and Olivia Martin.
She also leaves her beloved dog, Boo.
Burial was held in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

John F. Fitzpatrick
Belmar resident John F. Fitzpatrick, formerly of Trenton, died at his home with his family be his side on Wednesday, Feb.6.
He was 93 years old.
He was born, raised and educated in Trenton where he lived for 35 years before moving to Belmar in the early 40s.
He was a draftsman working for Bendix, Camp Evans and Fort Monmouth, from where he retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.
He was an avid sportsman, belonging to Ocean County Fish and Game Club. He had a lifelong interest in dogs, especially his prized English Setters, who won numerous ribbons and trophies during their field trials. Due to his experience, he later became a judge of field trials. Mr. Fitzpatrick was a gifted photographer who specialized in wedding and family and dog photos. He was also the track photographer at Wall Stadium during the early 60s.
He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Katherine [nee Dunne] Fitzpatrick; his brothers, Michael and George; and his beloved wife of 67 years, Majles G. [nee Osterlund] Fitzpatrick.
He is survived by his son, Jack Fitzpatrick; granddaughters, Kelly McNamara and Kerry Beer; eight great-grandchildren and many caring relatives and friends.
Service was held at Glendola Cemetery, Wall.

Angela Weaver Tully
West Belmar resident Angela Weaver Tully died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Sunnyside Manor Nursing Home.
She was 90 years old.
Born in Elizabeth, she has lived in West Belmar since 1945. She worked for Shop Rite in Brielle for 20 years before retiring.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Weaver, and a granddaughter, Tracy Bogan.
Surviving are her husband, William; two sons, Walter Weaver and Robert Weaver; one daughter, Paulette Comesso; three sisters and one brother; five grandchildren, Jason and Sean Weaver, Karen Jones, and Mark and Nicole Comesso; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Family and friends will gather today at 9:30 a.m. at Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Belmar.
Entombment will be held at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
John H. Bernauer
West Belmar resident John H. Bernauer D.P.M. died on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 95 years old.
He was born in Newark and lived there until 1974 when he moved to West Belmar.
He was a graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and practiced in Newark until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the N.J. Podiatric Medical Society.
He was a parishioner and communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Bernauer. Surviving are several cousins.
Entombment was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Julia M. DiFeo
Spring Lake resident Julia M. DiFeo died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at home.
She was 91 years old.
Julia was born and raised in Jersey City, before moving to Spring Lake in 1975. Julia graduated from Dickinson High School, Jersey City, and then went on to graduate from Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Jersey City. She also received her bachelor of arts degree from Jersey City State College, Jersey City.
In 1938, Julia met Sam DiFeo, whom she later married in 1942. She was formerly a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Jersey City, and a current parishioner of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Julia was a member of the Sodality of the Children of Mary of St. Teresa in Jersey City where she was a member for 50 years, a member of Dante Alighieri Society, and a member of the Women’s Club of Jersey City. She was also a member of the Mother’s Club at St. Peter’s Prep., Jersey City, and a member of the Women’s Club and the Garden Club, both of Spring Lake.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Julia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam C. DiFeo, in 2006; her two brothers, Vincent and Louis; and her five sisters, Philomena, Carmella, Mary, Veronica and Frances.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph [Genevieve], Denis [Cynthia], Samuel [Jordis] DiFeo; a daughter, Cecilia [Lawrence] Iannaccone; 14 grandchildren, Joseph, Andrew, Christina DiFeo, Jenifer [Paul] Ganun, Gina, Elisa, Julia, Anthony, Samuel [Hilary], Christopher [Kiernan], Brian [Tiia], Michael DiFeo, and Alexander and Lucas Iannaccone. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Madeline and Coner Ganun, Matthew, Julia, Josephine, Lucy, Evelyn and Millicent DiFeo; a brother-in-law, Robert Eakin; her sisters-in-law; Claire Massano, Esther Blasucci, Grace Balesteri, Genevieve Luisi, Yolanda DelGaizo, and Millicent Cappadonna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to Julia’s devoted caregivers, Nelcia Gibbs [deceased], Llewella Gibbs and Roseanne Wilson, and to Deacon Edward Jennings for his spiritual guidance.
Committal was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Barbara L. Jewett
Brielle resident Barbara L. Jewett died on Sunday, Feb. 3, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
She was 72 years old.
Born in Jersey City, she grew up in West Orange and then lived in Kingston, N.Y. and Spring Valley, N.Y., before moving to Brielle 39 years ago.
Mrs. Jewett was a teacher for Rampo II School District in Rockland County, N.Y., for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Church in Brielle and sang with the choir. Later, she belonged to the Manasquan Methodist Church and also sang with their choir.
After teaching, she owned and operated the Music Box Studio, Spring Lake and also taught private lessons at home. Barbara sang with the Garden State Philharmonic Chorus and with the Sweet Adelines.
Mrs. Jewett was predeceased by her son, Norman David, in 1959.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, the Rev. William Jewett; one son, William H., of Clarks Summit, Pa.; two daughters, Lorraine Ann, of Philadelphia, Pa. and Deborah Sue Soderland, of Downingtown, Pa.; one sister, Alice Stumpf, of Normandy Beach; and three grandchildren, Hayley, Ian and Eric.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Manasquan, on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
Cremation was private.

Lawrence D. Young
Belmar resident Lawrence D. Young passed away Monday, Feb. 11 at Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.
He was 93 years old.
Born in East Orange, Mr. Young lived in Livingston before moving to Belmar in 1946.
He is a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick. He is a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Bradley Beach and Sons of the American Revolution, Empire State Chapter.
He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping and was an avid Revolutionary War and Civil War enthusiast.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy S. Suhl, in 2006.
He is survived by his son, Garrett Young; his daughters, Nancy Stires and Dorothy Graff; his sister, Margaret Elmer; grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Amanda, Tizzie, Virginia, Stephanie and Heather; great-grandchildren, Ronald, Autumn, Ethan, Abigail, Hunter, Morgan, Tyler and Dina; and his great-great-granddaughter, Adrianna.
Visitation will be held on Friday at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan, from 2 until services at 3:30 p.m.
Eva Jane Boyette
Wanamassa section of Ocean Township resident Eva Jane [nee Bass] Boyette, R.N., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall Township.
She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Boyette and her late husband, Brantley, had both been registered nurses at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She then went on to work as a registered nurse for MCOSS, Neptune, for the remainder of her working career.
She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and had been very active in the former First Methodist Church of Asbury Park.
Born in Salemburg, N.C., she had lived in the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township for 55 years before residing at Manor by the Sea for the past five years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brantley Boyette, R.N., in 1979; her parents, Charles and Lula B. Hairr Bass; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Boyette; and many siblings.
Surviving are her two sons and their wives, Robert and Maureen Boyette, of Wall Township and Richard and Svetlana Boyette, New Jersey; her favorite sister, Agnes “Tootsie” Spell, of Autreyville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kathleen Boyette, Michael and his wife, Dorothy Boyette and Kevin Boyette; and two great- grandchildren, Michele and Christina Boyette.
Burial was held in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

Anita Lyman
Lakewood resident Anita Dorothea Lyman died on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Harrogate in Lakewood. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Brielle.
She was 89 years old.
She was a homemaker, and was a 1938 graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame in Philadelphia, Pa.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard C. Birdsall in 1971; by her second husband, Franklin S. Lyman in 1988; two brothers, Jerome and Anthony Koerber; and two sisters, Viola Long and Thelma Alvarez.
Surviving are her sons, William T. Birdsall and his wife, Kathleen, of Whiting and Howard C. Birdsall, of Brielle; her brother, William Koerber, of Meredith, N.H.; six grandchildren, Robert Birdsall, Daniel Birdsall, Pamela Birdsall, Matthew Birdsall, Kim Birdsall and Christopher Manella; and four great grandchildren, Nicole Dingman, Noah Birdsall, Mary Beth Birdsall and Ruby Hydra.
Interment was held privately under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

George Heil
Davenport, Fla. resident George Heil, formerly of Wall Township, died on Feb. 8 at the Keystone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kissimmee, Fla.
He was 89 years old.
Born in Elberfeld, Germany, George was a lifelong resident of Wall Township before retiring to Davenport Florida. He was the owner of Coast Canvas Company in South Belmar for 25 years retiring in August of 1989.
George served in the United States Army as a Tech. Sergeant during World War II from May of 1941 through October of 1945. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, The Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, and most recently a Bronze Star.
George was also a member of the Buckles and Bows Square Dancing Club in 2006 and the National Rifle Association.
George was predeceased by his parents, George Heil and Meta Wholgemuth Heil; his first wife, Edith Heil of 37 years, who died in May 1977, and his second wife, Betty J. Applegate Heil of 16 years, who died in September 1994.
George is survived by his two sons, Jimmy and George Heil; three step-sons, Louis C., Rick and Frank Hertler; two step-daughters, Debbie and Theresa Hertler; two brothers, Herman and Henry Heil; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.
Visitation will be held Friday at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138 Wall Township [adjacent to the Route 18 north entrance] from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8, with a service at 7 p.m. by the American Legion Post 346 of Neptune.
On Saturday, funeral services will be offered at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Paul Amey of the West Grove United Methodist Church presiding.
Interment with Military Honors to follow at Hamilton Cemetery, Old Corlies Avenue, Neptune.

Beverly Maltese
Spring Lake and Andover resident Beverly Maltese entered into eternal life on Feb. 6.
She was 80 years old.
She is survived by her cherished husband of 57 years, Jay Maltese, and by her beloved son, Robert.
Beverly and Jay’s daughter, Robert’s younger sister Cynthia, died in 1998.
Beverly and Jay have had a residence at the Essex and Sussex in Spring Lake for the past five years and have been active and much-loved members of the community there. A gentle woman, a lady of true grace, Beverly had a gift for creating beauty, and that beauty touched the lives of all she met. Her goodness and her unfailing kindness brightened our world. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Marie Ann Coppola
Belmar resident Marie Ann “Nanny” Coppola died on Friday, Feb. 8 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 71 years old.
Born in Montclair, she lived in the Shore area since 1972. Marie was head waitress and hostess at the Belmar Fishing Club where she was loved by all the members.
She was a member and communicant at the Church of St. Rose, Belmar.
She truly loved to be with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Dewey.
Surviving are her daughters, Renee Eldershaw and her husband, Tom, of Jackson, Lynette Bertelson and her husband, Robert, of Belmar; two brothers, Richard Giannetti and his wife, Anita, of Little Falls and James and his wife, Kathy, of Dayton; and five grandsons, Thomas and Brandon Eldershaw, and Bobby, Justin “J J” and Patrick Bertelson.
Marie will be missed dearly be all who knew her.
Interment was private.

Robert E. Hakusa
Lake Como resident Robert E. Hakusa passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Care One at Wall.
He was 80 years old.
He had been employed as the Director of Purchasing for Tenney Engineering, Union for 50 years. He had also been the proprietor of Robert Hakusa Engraving, North Arlington and later in Lake Como. For the past several years he had worked for George Wall Lincoln-Mercury, Shrewsbury.
Born and raised in North Arlington, he had attended North Arlington High School, where he was a Charter member of the North Arlington High School Hall of Fame, and was the National High School Champion in the 440. This record stood for many years. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after his honorable discharge, he went back to college where he also ran for NYU and later Upsala College.
He had been a full-time resident of North Arlington up until 1991 when they moved to their Lake Como home, where they had summered.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Patricia Smith Hakusa; his devoted children, Chris and Susan Hakusa, of Kearny and Diane and Ed Czerminski, of Spring Lake Heights; his dear sisters, Norma Counts, of Manhattan,N.Y. and Doris Opdyke, of Tinton Falls; and his grandchildren, Steven, Amanda and Thomas.
Relatives and friends are invited to call today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, followed by a funeral service on Friday Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Committal will be private at the convenience of the family.
