Annual Irish Night Out Is This Saturday

The Avon-by-the-Sea Fire Department will host its Ninth Annual Irish Night Out this weekend.

The benefit will be held on Saturday, March 13, from 6 until 10 p.m. in the Avon Municipal Building, located on Main Street in the borough.

A donation of $25 per person, $20 per senior or $10 per child [6 to 12 years old] entitles the attendee to a corned beef buffet dinner, soft drinks, and beer and wine for those of legal age. Children ages 5 and younger will be admitted to the event free of charge.

There also will be bagpipes, step dancing and Irish music.

Camp Zehnder Open House Announced

The Community YMCA has announced that Camp Zehnder, located at 3911 Herbertsville Road, will hold several open houses. Camp Zehnder is a 140 acre outdoor day camp offering YMCA programs and activities such as swimming, archery, a ropes adventure course, kayaking, climbing and fishing for children ages 3 to 15. It also provides after school care.

The open houses will be held on Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon; March 13, from 9 a.m. to noon; and April 14, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Half Way To Brielle Day Race Set For March 13

The Brielle Fire Company, along with the Jersey Shore Running Club, is hosting a 5K and one mile family fun run on March 13 — the half-way point to Brielle Day.

The event will begin at the fire department at 10:30 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. Post race festivities, including food and music will be held after.

The cost is $20 for the run if received before March 6 and $25 after.

The cost for children 12 and under, for either races, are $15 before March 6 and $20 after.

All participants get a t-shirt and there will be awards in all age categories.

Applications can be picked up at Brielle Borough Hall or downloaded from the Jersey Shore Running Club’s Web site by visiting the link www.jsrc.org.

Cancer Support Group To Hold Bus Trip, March 14

The New Beginnings Cancer Support Group will be sponsoring its 6th annual bus trip to Atlantic City’s Showboat Casino on Sunday, March 14.

The bus will depart from Crystal Point Yacht Club in Point Pleasant Borough at 8:45 a.m., and will arrive back at 6 p.m. The group asks that those wishing to attend please bring their own food and drink, and no alcohol, please.

Cost for the bus trip is $30 per person, and each person will get $25 back in coins. There will be a 50/50 raffle on the bus, as well.
