Intern Positions Available This Summer
Star News Group, Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach, has several unpaid internships available this summer.
Internships are open to college juniors and seniors only. Positions are available in the Newsroom and in the Web department.
Please e-mail resume to editor@thecoaststar.com or fax to 732-223-8212.
No phone calls will be accepted regarding these positions.
The responsibilities for the newsroom internship include starting out as an editorial assistant. After you master these skills, you will be given a business profile to complete, which entails calling a local merchant, interviewing them and writing a story on not only the business, but the person behind the business. You will also accompany a reporter on an interview for a feature story, as well as a municipal meeting or press conference, to give you a perspective regarding what those two types of events are like. You will then assist reporters with their stories, as needed, and be given random news assignments as they arise. You should have anywhere from five to 15 byline clips for your portfolio by the time you complete your internship.
Depending on what your school requires, we will have you work in the office two or three days a week for anywhere from two to six hours. Again, your school will help us determine the hours you need to put in and all internships must be coordinated through a four-year college or university and must be for academic credit.
There is also one internship open this year working with our webmaster. Interested candidates may request more information regarding that position by e-mailing a request to this address. Web department interns will learn podcasting, videography and basic web design. These are unpaid internships.
